Formerly Points Athabasca FHQ Contracting LP, our name was changed to Great Plains Contracting LP in 2018. Our new name reflects the Great Plains where our Indigenous heritage and our Saskatchewan base are rooted.
Great Plains Contracting is a First Nations partnership in southern Saskatchewan comprised of File Hills Qu’Appelle Tribal Council Developments LP (FHQ Developments, 50%), Points Athabasca (Points Athabasca, 17%), and Graham Construction (Graham, 33%). This partnership was forged to further engage the First Nations community in Saskatchewan’s growing economy, and contribute to the continuing development of Saskatchewan, particularly the Mining Sector.
FHQ is made up of 11 First Nations communities in southern Saskatchewan: Carry the Kettle, Little Black Bear’s Band, Nekaneet, Okanese, Pasqua, Peepeekisis, Piapot, Standing Buffalo, Star Blanket, Wood Mountain, and Muscowpetung.
The Mission of FHQ is to invest in profitable and sustainable business ventures that will contribute to the long-term economic independence of our shareholders’ communities, consistent with First Nation’s values. Its Vision is to be a proud and vibrant business owned by First Nations, actively participating in the economy.
Points Athabasca is an experienced indigenous-owned general contracting company, and since 1999, the company has built an impressive portfolio of high-quality projects in a wide variety of areas. Athabasca Basin Development is owned by the seven communities in Northern Saskatchewan’s Athabasca area. These communities are largely Dene First Nations communities and include Fond du Lac, Stony Rapids, Black Lake, Hatchet Lake, Wollaston Lake, Camsell Portage and Uranium City. 25 per cent of Points Athabasca is owned by one of North America’s largest construction companies, Graham.
